For the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network, I am currently researching and writing a training guide on European Union human rights policies and mechanisms in the context of the EU's relations with countries in North Africa and the Middle East.  This "hands-on" manual is meant to be used to train local human rights organizations in North African and Middle Eastern countries to lobby the EU on human rights issues in their countries.  For Front Line, I wrote a handbook for HRDs on how they can use the EU Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders and the Norwegian Government's guidelines on human rights defenders to protect themselves.

I facilitate and make presentations at workshops or seminars for the purpose of training and exchange of experience.  For example, in both 2010 and 2011, I facilitated a three-hour seminar entitled "Using New Media to Create Positive Change" which took place in the context of Amnesty International (AI) Netherlands' Movies That Matter film festival.  About 20 human rights defenders, film directors and Amnesty International staff and volunteers participated in each seminar. In consultation with AI I drafted a seminar agenda which centered around issues related to the making and promotion of films on human rights defenders and their work. Participants shared experiences and ideas, including on the uses of new media in increasing the effectiveness of their work.
